BECOMING WORLDS

Relais Culture Europe

2023-2024

In 2023, Pascal Brunet, Director of the Relais Culture Europe based in Paris and supported by the European Commission in Brussels, invited Larys Frogier to co-conceive with his team Fabienne Trotte and Laurence Baronne BECOMING WORLDS, a Research and Innovation Action to propose, test and validate innovative approaches for safeguarding, ensuring and developping democratic participation and political expression by questioning the historical and paradigms of whar we call today "Culture, the arts and the cultural spaces".

In order to envision future commons for an involving and inter-related worlds, BECOMING WORLDS aimed to survey and expand democratic apparatus in public spheres - especially in culture, the arts, cultural and digital spaces – by acknowledging, articulating and reorganizing people’s contribution, authorship and sovereignty for designing new forms of civic participation, association, collective learning and collaboration. It is also about understanding how it is possible to grow art as society instead of art in society, means how society is constructed in the artworks, which kind of relationships are built and proposed, and how prevailing norms about relationships are challenged

BECOMING WORLDS aimed to cooperate with universities, artists, art institutions, independent curators and researchers in order to consolidate

trans-continental/oceanic globalities & multitudes that are impacted by environmental change, economic and cultural transition, geopolitical conflicts, new forms of migration, switching modes of territorial governance, and where individuals, cultural communities, artistic/cultural/educational/social organizations are striving to conceive and re-create better conditions of collective living, learning and working.
