Art curation

Larys Frogier develops curatorial projects as creative practices of displacement where evolving contexts, territories, histories and audiences are activated to enable transversal visions and shared nowledges. According to Frogier, curating is not only about displaying exhibitions but rather in making tangible the process of growing with artists and, beyond a mere visit, relation or participation, acknowledging the full contribution of autonomous individuals to the experience and co-creation of an artistic project.

As an exhbition curator, Larys Frogier conceived and produced monographic projects with internationally renowned contemporary artists such as Francis Alÿs, John Armleder,
Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Angela Ferreira, Barthi Kher, Lee Kit,Philippe Parreno, Paola Pivi,
Ugo Rondinone, Allan Sekula, Trinh T. Minh-ha...

Coming to group shows, Larys Frogier curated seminal exhibitions raising social awareness and solidarity, while also re-making art histories of the 20th and 21st centuries with unexpected combinations in different regions of the world.

Among long-term curated projects, Larys Frogier conceived Art Cooperation Transmission - A.C.T Democ[k]racy, a three years initiative involving researchers, artists and institutions in an extended Europe such as Eindhoven, Cluj-Napoca, Glasgow, Belgrade, strengthening ties between central and western European art scenes.

Enthusiastic about experimental and performative art projects, Larys Frogier was one of the very first among the visual arts curator to engage with visionary choreographers such as Alain Buffard, Boris Charmatz, Catherine Contour, Laurent Goldring, Myriam Gourfink, Latifa Laâbissi, Xavier Le Roy, Jennifer Lacey/Nadia Lauro/Zeena Parkins, along with dance historians and theoreticians such as Yvane Chapuis, Laurence Louppe, Sabine Prokhoris.

He thus naturally initiated unique connections and partnerships between visual art institutions and theaters, choreographic centers and performance festivals. In Asia, Frogier had the privilege to co-work performative projects and publications with performers such as JK Anikoche (Philippines), Eisa Jocson (Philippines), the collective Contact Gonzo (Japan), Daniel Kok (Singapore), Nunu Kong (China), Asad Raza (USA), Yang Yuanyuan (China).
